June was HOT in Albuquerque
Hello Everyone.
We had such a hot month of June: temperature reaching up into the 90's everyday. One day it hit 99. Just makes you want to stay inside with the blinds shut and the curtains drawn to keep out the beating rays of the sun. But with the beginning of this past week, the winds are coming up and bringing the rain clouds but no rain to speak of; maybe a spritz. This weekend we will be getting some relief: 80 degrees. But come the month of July, we will be getting our rainy season, or monsoons as we call them here in the Southwest. Then there will be blessed relief.
While I was holed up inside, the walls of our place are made of cement slabs, which are a blessing: it makes it warm in winter and cool in summer In the old days, the Native American tribes built adode dwellings to live in. Very smart idea in an area of intense heat.
I did a lot of sewing. I bought some fabric and also got into a stash I had and made jumpers. It is so very hard to find sewing patterns in the fabric store that look decent on a middle aged woman without making her look ridiculous. All the patterns are styled after Britney Spears or Sarah Jessica Parker and I'd look like an fool in such fashions. I was blessed to find an ebay store called Bobbye's Sewing Patterns that carries 70,000 patterns and was able to buy some jumper styles of the kind that I loved in the mid 1980's and the 1990's and I made matching covering out of the fabric for the jumpers. So, in all, I had made 4 jumpers within the past month.
I will be doing some custom sewing. I have an ad placed on www.modesthandmaidens.com . If you go on the home page, go to the left hand sidebar where it says, "Modest Dress", click, and that will bring you to a page that there will be a link for "Custom Sewing", click that, and you will see my ad. The ad is self explanatory I hope you will come and visit.

Well that is it for the month of June. See you in July...
